01What cookies are

The basics, in two paragraphs.

Cookies are small text files a website places on your device. They are how a site remembers things between page loads, that you are signed in, that you accepted the cookie banner, that you prefer the dark theme. The same applies to similar technologies like local storage and pixel tags.

Some cookies are essential for the site to work; others are optional and only set if you give us permission. We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles about you, and we do not sell your data.

02Categories we use

Three buckets, with different rules.

Strictly necessary
Required for the site to function, security, load balancing, remembering your cookie choice. Always on. No consent required because the site cannot work without them.
Analytics
Aggregated, pseudonymous statistics about how the site is used so we can improve it. Set only with your consent.
Marketing
Used to measure the effectiveness of campaigns and, where applicable, to show relevant content on other sites. Set only with your consent.

03Cookie inventory

The full list, what they are, who sets them, how long they last.

This list is reviewed quarterly. If you spot a cookie set by our site that isn't listed here, please let us know at hello@whats.exposed.

05Third parties

Who else may set cookies through our site.

We try to keep third parties to a minimum. Where we use them, they are bound by their own privacy and cookie policies. Currently:

  • Google Analytics, pseudonymous traffic analytics, with IP anonymisation enabled. Google policy.
  • LinkedIn Insight, campaign measurement, only when Marketing consent is given. LinkedIn policy.

If we add or remove a third party, this Policy is updated and (for material changes) we will re-prompt for consent.

06Browser controls

You always have the final say.

Beyond our preferences panel, every modern browser lets you block or delete cookies directly. Quick links:

Note that disabling Strictly Necessary cookies will prevent parts of the site from working, for example, you will not be able to sign in to the platform.

07Do Not Track

Where we stand.

"Do Not Track" (DNT) is a browser signal that has not become an enforceable standard. Until that changes we do not respond to DNT signals automatically, but our default-off approach to optional cookies achieves the same effect: nothing optional is set unless you say yes.

08Changes

How updates to this Policy are handled.

If we change which cookies are used, this Policy is updated and the version number bumped. Material changes, particularly any change to optional categories, will trigger a fresh consent request.
